Osiemdziesiąt papierosów. W powojennych Niemczech, gdzie reichsmarka była bezwartościowa, jeden amerykański papieros kosztował sześć–siedem marek. Osiemdziesiąt papierosów to około pięciuset ssześćdziesiąt marek — ponad trzy miesięczne pensje robotnika. Za tę sumę można było kupić dwa funty masła albo garnitur. Albo przeżyć tydzień.Eighty cigarettes. In post-war Germany, where the Reichsmark was worthless, one American cigarette cost six–seven marks. Eighty cigarettes came to about five hundred and sixty marks — more than three months' wages for a worker. For that sum one could buy two pounds of butter, or a suit. Wanda Głuchowska — żona Stefana, matka Krzysztofa, farmaceutka, sierżant podchorąży Kedywu AK — pisała do syna z Warszawy. W jednym z listów wspomniała o brylancie:Wanda Głuchowska — Stefan's wife, Krzysztof's mother, a pharmacist, sergeant officer cadet of the Kedyw of the Home Army (AK) — wrote to her son from Warsaw.
